A chair called Einstein

I inherited a chair or a stool from my late danish grandmother made by an Icelandic architect, called Sveinn Kjarval, Sveinn studied furniture making in Denmark when he was young and has designed all kinds of things, mostly furniture but also interiors. He for example designed the library in the presidential habitats (the Icelandic white house so to speak) and a few restaurants as well, but I think he is mostly known for his Scandinavian / danish modernism furniture, which is still sold today some 30 years after his passing.
The chair is very cute and simple, made from solid Teak (i´m pretty sure it´s Teak). The upholstery although probably very practical and pretty a "few" years back, was a little tired and to be honest yucky :/ So I made the decision that this little stool was gonna be pretty again. I vent to a place here in Iceland and bought some sheepskin, the lady was nice enough to cut a whole skin in half because I only needed half of it (and then it laid in my laundry room for a while because I suffer from "begin a phobia").

Aint I pretty - and doesn´t the name fit him well ?
It was a very simple process though, so I could not really procrastinate any longer, and with a little tug here and tug there help from my boyfriend, it was done in no time at all :D

I took all of the staples out

plenty of those

If you look closely you can actually see the pattern of the fabric!!
ready to be cut & stapled
I just used the old fabric to trace the skin and then I cut and stapled, fairly easy all in all and I think it looks very cute, an even mix of crazy and cute ;) hence the name hihi

Here he is before

getting ready to tear out those staples

And voila - I introduce Einstein ;)

Very fitting name! I'm all about textures and things you just have to touch. Nice work. You are definitely not alone with "begin-a-phobia". =)

Glæsilegur stóll! hvar fékkstu gæruna?

Inga´s Haven said...

Takk fyrir það :) Gæruna fékk ég í Hvítlist upp á höfða - svo margt fallegt til hjá þeim þar :)

Anonymous said...

Svakalega fallegur stóll, algjört æði :)

En mannstu nokkuð hvað gæran kostaði ca?

Kv. Margrét.

Inga´s Haven said...

takk kærlega fyrir það :) ég er ekki alveg klár á því hvað gæran kostaði (svo langt síðan að ég gerði þetta) en ég er með töluna 6000.- e-h hluta vegna í hausnum .. en þau eru svo næs í hvítlist að þau létu mig hafa hálfa gæru .. og á fullt af afgangi meira að segja af henni :)
